That Saturday, Hadley got up early, excited about the farmers market. After a week with almost no contact with her best friend, she was looking forward to spending time with Suze. About halfway into setting up, however, her excitement ebbed when Gran and Kitty showed, carrying Suze’s art prints for sale.

“No Suze?” Hadley asked, deflated.

They shook their heads. “She’s feeling under the weather. Said she’ll try to come out later if she feels better.”

Hadley checked her phone and found a missed text.

Still feeling icky and I don’t want to give whatever I have to anyone, so I’m going to stay home. Sorry, I’ll miss seeing you.
